MMA Headguards - what do they protect you from?
A protective headguards will protect your head against more or less serious injuries. It's about, among others o abrasions of the epidermis, contusions of the auricles, cuts, fractures of the nose or jaw bones. The appropriate construction and special foam evenly distributes the force of the blows. Both training headguard (slightly lighter) and competition headguards (heavier) must protect the forehead, chin, cheekbones, jaw and around the ears. Horizontal stitching in the zone protecting the ear prevents a sudden increase in pressure in the ear canal, which protects the eardrum from damage.
MMA Headguard - construction
Boxing headguads have a multi-layer construction composed of, among others, made of perfectly shock-absorbing EVA foam of different densities. The headguards provides effective protection for the most sensitive areas of the head, which are usually most exposed to painful injuries. The area around the ear is protected by an additional panel with a thickness of about 12 mm. The chin strap has an anatomically profiled structure, and the fastening is a hook & loop system that allows you to adjust the protector to the size and shape of the head. The lining is in the form of high-quality fabric, ensuring air circulation and moisture removal.
Boxing headguard - how to choose the right one?
Do you train boxing? Do you need an MMA headguard? Before you choose it, pay attention to the following:
- External material - protective helmets are covered with leather or synthetic material. Professionals usually reach for the first option. He has more stamina. Beginners can successfully choose a cheaper substitute.
- Filling - is responsible for the degree of impact force absorption. A great filling is polyurethane foam.
- Visibility - the eye holes should be large enough so that nothing restricts the field of vision.
- Fit - a protective helmet must be stable and under no circumstances should it move while taking blows.
- Purpose - sparring helmets are designed for training, they are lighter and cover more. Competition helmets are strong, heavier, but they expose part of the face, exposing it to impact. A training helmet is usually cheaper.
